October 2005. I’m on my early morning walk before my college classes. I had read about a short novel competition at school the day before, and I was yearning to write something again. But I had no time. The days when I could sit worry-free in front of my notebook and craft cool stories and poems for hours were long gone. My life was becoming hectic. But a writer is always a writer — as evidenced by the fact that I’m writing this now. I looked down at the Nokia 3250 Xpress Music in my hand and wondered: Could I type a short novel on a T9 keyboard while walking? Challenge accepted.

One week later, my 13-A4-page novel was submitted to the competition (spoiler: I did not win), and a dramatic shift had occurred in the way I thought about writing. Digital allthethings! No more pens, papers, notebooks, and paraphernalia I couldn’t carry with me everywhere. The smartphone that was already in my pocket was all I needed to get creative anywhere.

Amazon launched the Kindle Scribe earlier this year, offering a stylus pen and note-taking functionality. Now, the retail colossus has slashed prices on this device as part of a variety of Black Friday deals.

The company is cutting Kindle Scribe prices by $100 to $115, with the entry-level 16GB model retailing for just $239.99 (was $339.99). Check out all the discounted models below.

It might be surprising to some that the e-ink tablet is a growing product category, but it makes sense when you consider it. Some people absolutely need — or at least insist on — handwritten notes, and an e-ink device can not only save paper but sync with other devices, and let you read for work or pleasure in your downtime. Perhaps more importantly, an e-ink tablet is usually both cheaper and lighter than something like an iPad.

The current leaders in this category are Amazon’s Kindle Scribe and the reMarkable 2. But which should you put your money into, especially if your focus is on notetaking over reading, or vice versa?

Finding the right e-book reader apps (also called eReaders) can be difficult. There are a variety of e-book types and plenty of file formats to deal with, and then there are different kinds of books (novels, comics, etc.) that make the whole experience a little complicated. However, with the right app, you can turn any phone or tablet into an e-book reader fairly easily.

Additionally, the technology has kind of plateaued a little bit. Thus, e-book reader apps are about as good as they’ve ever been, and we don’t see them getting much better without some serious innovation in the future. It’s unsurprising that some of the biggest Prime Day deals are on Amazon’s own products, but it’s no bad thing. The devices that were already budget-friendly are getting some big discounts for Prime members, including up to 38% off the Kindle range. When the Amazon Kindle Scribe first launched, it got a mitigated review from us because the software experience wasn’t on par with the promising hardware. After a few updates, it is finally living up to its potential. The Kindle Scribe is no longer a large e-ink tablet with very basic note-taking capabilities; instead, it has become a more powerful note and sketching tablet as well as a better PDF — and specifically comic book — reader.

I received my very first Kindle over a decade ago as a Christmas gift. My then-boyfriend rightfully pegged me for a nerd and introduced me to the convenience of e-book readers. If we learned anything from Beauty and the Beast, it’s that you can probably count on a library to make a girl swoon.

Now twelve years later, I’ve hung onto the gift-giver, but I’ve swapped e-readers a few times over. My latest upgrade is Amazon’s 2022 base model. After a few weeks of using the device, it’s clear that the Kindle 2022 is closing the gap on Amazon’s more expensive offerings.

Amazon is holding an event today to announce some new products. One of the first items that were revealed during the event was the company’s new e-ink tablet called the Kindle Scribe.

The Kindle Scribe is built to be both a reading and writing device that merges the best parts of Amazon’s Kindle tablets and e-readers. It is the company’s latest stab at trying to achieve its end goal with the Kindle line — to create a device that’s as versatile and easy to interact with as paper.

In the world of e-readers, none can compare to the mighty Kindle. Striking the perfect balance between features and price, if you’re in the market for an e-reader, you’re probably in the market for a Kindle.

Today, Amazon is rolling out its new Kindle for 2022. This new Kindle is an upgrade of the 10th-generation Kindle, which launched in 2019. That makes this the 11th-generation Kindle and the first entry in the basic line in over three years.

The Amazon Kindle has established itself as the de-facto choice for anyone looking for an e-book reader. Near-global availability, a digital storefront that could rival the library of Alexandria, and modern-day conveniences like the ability to sync your books across multiple devices make it a no-brainer. Sure, alternatives like the Nook or Kobo exist, but the Kindle is the largest player in the business by a wide margin.

Unfortunately, Amazon’s overwhelming lead also means that the company has been rather sluggish with feature development and the lack of some of these is rather grating for avid fans of the product. I’m all about keeping a product simple and straightforward, but here are six feature additions in my Amazon Kindle features wishlist that would go a long way towards elevating the user experience.

Today, Amazon announced the third generation of its Kindle Oasis e-reader. Now available for pre-order, the new Kindle Oasis’ highlight feature is the display’s adjustable color temperature.

Blue light is typically fine during the day, but it’s often cited as a leading cause of eye fatigue. It’s particularly troublesome at night when you might want to read a chapter or two before bed and the light is too harsh for your eyes. The new feature lets you change how warm or cool the display’s color tone is to offset some of that harshness.

Amazon’s Kindle e-readers are part of that rare breed of devices that don’t need to be upgraded all that often. Over the last decade or so, I’ve gone through four, maybe five Kindles. I started off with a Kindle Keyboard. It eventually broke in an unfortunate accident, so I replaced it with a touch-enabled Kindle 4. That was followed by a second generation Paperwhite because, well, having a built-in light is amazing. More recently, I upgraded to the new Paperwhite with waterproofing only because my Kindle from 2013 was finally starting to show signs of age.

 If Amazon had released the 2019 Kindle earlier on in the year, this is the model I would have chosen.

The Amazon Kindle is, without a doubt. the best e-reader money can buy. However, to get a great experience with an Amazon Kindle you have to spend a good amount of cash — the new Kindle Paperwhite will set you back $130, and that’s the discounted price with special offers (without special offer ads appearing on the device, it will cost you $150).

Luckily, Amazon is updating the cheapest entry in the Kindle lineup to include one of the best features of the Kindle Paperwhite, which is a front light. Amazon had this to say about the front light: “Customers consistently tell us how much they appreciate having a front light on Kindle devices so they can read in any environment — even in bed at night. The team worked hard to bring this customer-favorite feature to our most affordable device.”

Amazon has announced the launch of Kindle Lite, a lightweight alternative to its Kindle app. An India-first product, the Amazon Kindle Lite app is developed for readers using smartphones with limited storage and on 2G/3G networks.

Kindle Lite consumes less memory while providing a seamless reading experience, even over slow internet connections and patchy networks. The app is less than 2MB and downloads in under a minute on your phone. You can read instantly and do not need to wait for eBooks to download completely to begin reading. It also allows you to actively manage storage for downloaded eBooks as well as monitor your data usage over WiFi or mobile networks.

Amazon has already kicked off its Black Friday deals early this year and the company has even more planned come the week of Thanksgiving. The retailer is preparing to drop some major discounts on its own range of hardware, including the Kindle, Fire TV Stick and Fire tablet.

Amazon will be knocking the price of its basic 6-inch Kindle down to just $49.99 (list price $79.99) on November 22^nd, followed by a discount on its Fire TV Stick on November 26^th. The little stick will see its price drop from $39.99 to $24.99.

Amazon is a company that seemingly defies any and all expectations of what one might consider to be “status quo”. From its origins as an online bookstore to expansion into retail shopping-at large to media to consumer devices to web development, Jeff Bezos’ brand has become one of the most well known, most respected in the world. Perhaps no other company in existence could actually continue to garner investment revenue despite the atypical fact it rarely earns a profit. For better or worse, however, it seems that the superfluous spending on consumer devices has come to an end, according to a new report in The Wall Street Journal.

As Amazon has expanded however, not only have the costs risen, but so too the stakes. When the Kindle first launched years ago, the eBook reader market was basically empty save for a few Sony products. As time progressed, everyone from rival retailer Barnes & Noble to then-newcomer Kobo has tried to get in on the action. The Kindle begot the Kindle Fire, a tablet, and last year, a smartphone too, the Amazon Fire Phone. One of the things I love about reading books with Kindle is the synchronization across devices. I have often been reading something on my Kindle device and then had to go out. While waiting in a queue (or whatever) I can get out my Android phone and continue reading using Kindle for Android. As you can imagine, I am always happy when Amazon adds more functionality to the Kindle Android app. The great news is that Amazon has just released a new version which adds a lot of new functionality.

We’ve heard of how Amazon is positioning itslef as a leader in the mobile industry through its content business. While the Kindle lineup has been a popular low-priced tablet due to its integration of e-books and content, here’s a significant piece of news that competitors should watch out for: Amazon will soon offer in-app purchases of real-world goods.

While not long ago, e-book readers were rudimentary devices far off from the capabilities of tablets, the thin line between a basic e-reader and a more complex slate becomes increasingly thinner and thinner and thinner.

Amazon is the most important company “responsible” for mixing things up and the makers of the Kindle Fire are apparently planning to “confuse” us even more. Aside from preparing the release of a bunch of new tablets, set to take the Fire’s popularity to new heights, Amazon is reportedly prepping the launch of at least one color e-book reader as well.
